Known for hits such as "More Bounce to the Ounce," "Dance Floor," "Computer Love" and "I Wanna Be Your Man," the group was a partial source of inspiration to West Coast hip hop and G-funk. Zapp's hand-clapped, drum-beat styled funk of Zapp's records and Roger's use of the talk box became another reason for the group's impact and its success.
Funk, West Coast Hip Hop

Singer/songwriter Shirley Murdock is best known for the ethereal ballad "As We Lay," which was produced by Roger Troutman. Murdock started out singing gospel music in her native Toledo. Troutman hired her as a background singer for his family's group Zapp, who had several hits on Warner Brothers (or its Reprise imprint). Based on this success, Troutman began recording tracks with Murdock and lead singer Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players, among others, at his Dayton-based recording studio Troutman Sound Labs. Murdock's brand new inspirational CD & DVD LIVE: THE JOURNEY (Tyscot Records/Oct 2011) features the Top 30 Radio single, "Dream." She recently performed this song at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Dedication in Washington DC a few weeks ago. The project also features special guests Kelly Price, Regina Belle, and Beverly Crawford.
Gospel Singer/Songwriter

www.therrazzroom.com/12ap/zapp.html • View on Flickr DaveValentin_

The ANGELA BOFILL Experience
starring ANGELA BOFILL
performed by DAVE VALENTIN, The Angela Bofill Band
with Very Special Guest MELBA MOORE and JEANIE TRACY
Celebrate Martin Luther King Weekend with a Special Encore Engagement
Thu-Fri, 1/12-13, 8pm
Sat, 1/14, 7 & 9:30pm
Sun, 1/15, 7pm
$45 (Limited VIP $55)
The RRazz Room
San Francisco's Premier Nightclub
222 Mason Street
San Francisco, CA 94102
For tickets and more information: 800.380.3095, or therrazzroom.com

Enjoy an unforgettable evening with the legendary Angela Bofill, Dave Valentin, The Angela Bofill Band and Very Special guest Melba Moore.

For the viewer - the great surprise is the heightened "in the moment" style banter between vocalist and musician - and a healthy dose of D'Agostino's own self-deprecating humor and comic delivery. Friends on and off stage, D'Agostino and Lacy have built an organic but structured piece of "Cabaret Theatre" showcasing not only D'Agostino's masterful vocalizations - but his quick demand of the stage. Lacy, a highly sought after musical director - creates a lush landscape in which the listener nods carefully along, note by note, from medley to medley with magical transition. Part history lesson, part Torch Song 101 - the music spans from the Early Harlem Renaissance to modern-day blue eyed soul (with a little Madonna to boot!).
